Description

In this generative workshop, we will explore sound as a means to infuse rhythm and lyricism to our writing. We will consider the question, how can we infuse music and sound into our poetry and writing? We will also explore sound in writing as a way to reclaim proximity to those we have lost, those we never knew, or those about whom we dream. Lastly, we will explore sound as reverberation or taking action again, working against silence as a means of liberation, and writing poems that have emotional impact with sonic resonance.

We will discuss sample poems (Natalie Diaz, Juan Felipe Herrera) and learn craft techniques to enhance the lyric impact of our writing. Participants will leave with a new poem, ideas for new poems, and strategies to make your poems and writing sing.
